To light a candle for peace is what the General Prefect of the Society of Jesus, the Jesuits, proposes to us. This candle for peace is :
As a sign of our hope rekindled by the Easter experience, I invite all those who are committed to justice, reconciliation and peace to light a candle during this Easter season. A candle is a symbol of light, which illuminates the eyes, helps us to see better and to find our way. In the Christian tradition, it is the symbol of Jesus, the crucified and risen one.
Our life project places us very close to the Jesuits. Why not make this simple request our own and thus “unite our voices for peace, a prayer for justice and truth to shine in our world”?
Let us kindle this light, a small and important gesture of hope and also of protest against so much injustice. In doing so, we will join our voices to those of so many people who say “enough”? Together, we call for justice and truth. We commit ourselves to contribute to the reconciliation that opens the doors for societies and individuals to achieve freedom.
